The term Unidentified Flying Object, best known for UFO (from the acronym UFO, English translation of the UFO, Unidentified Flying Object), refers to any alleged flying object, real or apparent, which can not be identified by the observer and whose origin remains unknown after investigation.
Sightings of unusual aerial phenomena date back to antiquity, but the term UFO was popularized from the first sighting, which was released in 1947. Since then, tens of thousands people around the world have asserted that they would have seen UFOs.
Due to numerous reports, some groups have speculated that it would quite likely have not been informed of many others due to fear of public ridicule, given the social stigma that has been created on the UFO issue. This is because in the popular culture around the world, is generally used the term UFO to mean any hypothetical alien spacecraft, although the term itself does not really define the nature of the phenomenon. The term "flying saucer" or "flying saucer" is also used as equivalent to describe a type of UFO.
